Predictions and free practice mock papers for the 2026 Edexcel A-Level Politics exams!

The first Edexcel A-Level Politics exam of 2026 is just 2 months away. As I do every year, I thought it would be useful to make some predictions for topics that are more likely than others to come up this year, as well as to put together a couple of mock papers that include these topics.

Very Important Disclaimer!!!

You should NOT only revise these topics, you should revise everything on the specification. Anything on the specification can come up in the exam, including topics that were asked about last year (referendums is a very small topic, but came up two years in a row in 2023 and 2024!).

The below predictions are only educated guesses about what is more/less likely to come up based on the topics that students have been examined on in recent years. You will definitely not be well prepared for the exam if you only revise these topics.

2026 Politics Explained Easter Revision Webinars!

After receiving over forty 5 ⭐ reviews last year, this year i'm going to be running another series of A-Level Politics revision webinars this Easter, for both Edexcel and AQA students! These are very long webinars, which you can attend live and ask questions, but also revise with the recording all the way up until the exams.

Each revision webinar covers a major part of the course and includes hundreds of slides packed with key knowledge, examples, essay plans, A* tips, and exam-ready conclusions. Every topic will be covered, but extra focus will be given to the most likely topics to come up in 2026!

"I don't normally sign up for paid revision, but I had previously watched the Politics Explained videos on Youtube and felt it was a safe bet. It was so much more! The Politics Explained webinars have been incredible from start to end. Not only did Oli tutor for around 8 hours in each webinar, but the slides are full of extensive research, detail and relevant information, perfect for a final ingestion of revision before our exams. Thank you again Oli for the best revision experience, and keep going with this series! It's the best." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Edexcel A-Level Politics Paper 1 Predictions (2026)

You can find detailed essay plans for questions on all of these topics on the Politics Explained website.

UK Politics

A few topics that are less likely to come up due to coming up last year:

  1. Rights In Context

  2. Internal Party Divisions

  3. Social Factors and Voting Behaviour

  4. Pressure Groups (has been asked two years in a row, though it is a big topic so absolutely could be asked again).

Quite a few of the questions last year were on big topics that could very easily be asked about again this year, so don't be complacent. These include voting behaviour, pressure groups and the policies of the Labour and Conservative parties.

Everything else is as likely as anything else to come up, however there are a few topics that I have a hunch are more likely than others to come up:

  1. The Influence of the Media

  2. Comparing FPTP With Another Electoral System In Use In The UK/Electoral System Analysis

  3. The Party System/Importance Of Minor Parties/Factors That Affect Party Success

  4. Direct and Representative Democracy

  5. Debates Over Suffrage.

  6. Factors Question on the Reasons For the Outcomes Of Elections

Core Political Ideas

The order of likelihood for each core political ideology coming up this year is:

  1. Conservatism (wasn't asked about last year).

  2. Socialism (was asked about last year but not in 202).

  3. Liberalism (was asked about in 2023, 2024 and 2025).

This being said, the exam board have always been very clear that you could get two questions on the same political idea, whilst their choice of referendums two years in a row demonstrates that they are willing to catch people out, in order to ensure that students come to the exam prepared to answer a question on any topic.

You should therefore make sure to revise all three core political ideologies.

UK Government

A few topics that are less likely to come up due to coming up last year:

These could absolutely still be asked about! Edexcel have asked questions on topics two years in a row a number of times.

  1. Further Devolution.

  2. Backbenchers.

  3. The Power of the Prime Minister.

Everything else is as likely as anything else to come up, however there are some topics that I have a hunch are more likely than others to come up:

  1. The Supreme Court.

  2. Ministerial Responsibility.

  3. The Functions Of Parliament, Including Legislative Process.

  4. Devolution.

  5. A Smaller Section Of Prime Minister and the Cabinet: Presidential Government, The Factors That Govern The Prime Minister’s Selection Of Ministers or The Factors That Affect The Relationship Between PM & Cabinet.

  6. The European Union.

Take a look at their election tracker, they give some examples :) i.e Evaluate The Argument That Direct Democracy Is Superior To Representative Democracy (30)
